We are coming alongside the Baptist General Convention of Texas- River Ministry, The North American Mission Board or the Southern Baptist Church, and City Church Del Rio(CCDR).
Purpose Statement:
- Serving the “least of these (matt 25:40)” and “bearing the burden (gal 6:2)” placed upon the Del Rio community through sharing Our Father’s resources.
- visit https://bit.ly/delriotrip2021 - get a sense of last years’ experience through team photos
- Staff the Val Verde Border Humanitarian Coalition under the supervision of the resident directors
- Monday –Saturday 8:00am to finish (mid-afternoon)
- Assisting in the transition of refugees from federal custody toward their destinations at the request of the U.S. Border Patrol and Governing Authorities
- Welcoming, setup and take down, caring for and teaching children while parents make arrangements, SPANISH TRANSLATION, preparation of lunches, praying over families, reset the facility for the next day.
- Occasionally: facility repairs as needed, driving families to transportation facilities, other needs attached to VVBHC and CCDR.
Accommodations:
- “Granny B”, in cooperation with CCDR, converted her home into a fabulous mission team housing facility. We stayed there last year, and it could not have been a better home for us in Del Rio.
- Sleeps 26 total between two bunk-houses and four private bedrooms. 3 indoor private bedrooms feature a queen size bed and immediate like-home access to bathroom for participants that need specific accommodations.
- Additional participants will result in procurement of hotel rooms within a few blocks of Granny B’s and potentially youth participants staying at CCDR.
- We will ask for volunteers among the team to be “cook” for the night using the well-equipped kitchen at Granny B’s and trip funds to buy groceries. We will eat take out the night of our arrival and have a team celebration dinner either Thursday or Friday.
- Breakfast and Lunch will be groceries stocked at Granny B’s
Additional Details:
- Suggested Donation: $50.00 to cover groceries, gas, and unforeseen expenses. Payable to the Southside Offices or via ssbcmonahans.com (select “online giving” and then choose “Del Rio Mission” from the drop-down box)
- All funds are kept and managed out of a designated fund at Southside. This allows us to utilize Southside’s credit cards during travel and online giving system to collect money. At the conclusion of the trip, all remaining funds will be given to VVBHC.
- The Southside Youth Group will be planning additional fun activities in the evenings. Any youth or youth-at-heart from other churches are welcome and encouraged to join in with them.
- All ages are welcome to participate. Pre “Youth” age Children must be accompanied by appropriate adult.
- We will leave Sunday May 29th at 2:00pm from the Southside Activity Center (1402 S. Main Ave in Monahans)-Return will be Saturday evening; however, specific time will be dependent upon what time we finish at the coalition.
- If there is a group that leaves mid-week, we will coordinate that travel at later team meetings.
- Given the closeness of Del Rio, participants are welcome to join and return from the team at any time using their personal vehicles.
Helping From Home:
- Creation of backpacks. Each family is given a backpack filled with items to provide them some resources for the next leg of their journey. This year, a donation has provided the coalition with thousands of un-filled backpacks. Our contribution will center on compiling the items that will be used to stuff those backpacks. Items to be included fall into two categories: hygiene and practical and include such things as toothbrush, soap, snacks, notebooks, pens, and bibles. A complete list for packing is forthcoming as our missionary, Shon, reviews their current inventory.
- Donation of items or money. Southside will joyfully collect resources you or your church feel led to share and steward them upon their way to Del Rio.
- Money donated will either be used towards the purchase of “backpack items” or procuring additional needs disclosed to us by the coalition.
- Items should primarily come from in the forthcoming “backpack list” (Spanish Bibles, hygiene, notebooks, etc..)
- However, in general, the Coalition has needs for Men’s Clothing, coats for next winter season, or new children’s toys to use as gifts for departing little ones headed for long journeys.
- Prayer. As a team, we have expressed our desire to join in prayer each morning of the trip between 7-8am that Lord may guide us and empower us for His work. In addition, each evening we will gather for devotion and reflection as a team at roughly 8pm. We would be honored if you would be led of God to join at those, or any other, times.
